SALON SPY: ACOTE

Acote is an independent salon located in just off High Holborn, on the famous Chancery Lane. We popped in for a quick snip to check out the services. Inside the decor is simple, unfussy and clean. After a quick consultation with our stylist we were washed and given a trim and reshape.

Once the chopping stopped we were treated to a blow dry using a method we hadn't seen for a good 10 years - placing metal round brushes into our main before blasting them with heat. The result was a little too 70s for us, a mass of volume with big curls - a'la Farrah Fawcett.

Hair bobble in and safely home we re-washed our hair and are happy to report that the cut, once restyled, was actually fairly decent - the stylist had listened to what we'd wanted and the end result was an old round healthier do. Plus for only £35 for a cut and blow dry in Central London it's not bad value either.

The salon also offers a selection of beauty treatments which is great if you're looking for a quick pedicure in between meetings.

SAMPLE SALE: AMERICAN APPAREL

Remember the riots, no not those London riots, the riots that happened at the last American Apparel sample sale causing the whole thing to get shut down. Well it's happening again only without the riots (we hope!). They have apparently spent over £35,000 on security to make sure everyone behaves and this time entry is via a guest list on their facebook event page.

The sale will run for a whooping 6 days with up to 90% off and prices starting at just one pound! Clothing will be replenished throughout the week so no need to dive in on the first day. Lets just hope whoever is doing the guestlist doesn't make any mistakes we'd hate to see the anger if people couldn't get in! Especially as there are already over 8,000 people attending...

YEO VALLEY: THE CHURNED

We weren't sure where to put this post (music, eat or style) so we settled with Style because it was the place it fitted least! Last week we went along to the launch of Churned - the boy band of Yeo Valley whose members are possibly the sexiest 'farmers' in the UK.

The video is an advertisement for Yeo Valley and has even made it into the singles charts - clocking in at no. 67! The brand has also created a facebook page complete with sing-a-long competition, free iTunes download, lyrics and choreography dance moves video so you can sing and dance along at home.

And for those who think they are far cooler than a yoghurt boyband we dare you to watch the video twice and then tell us it doesn't get stuck in your head! Even writing this now we can hear "Yeo Valley, Naturally, We won’t change, no never, We’ll farm this way forever and ever..."

SALON SPY: AFRICOLOGY URBAN SPA

SALON SPY: JO HANSFORD

With a client list that features the likes of Angelina Jolie, Sienna Miller and Georgia Jagger there's little wonder that this place is a flurry of activity all of the time. Who wouldn't want a mop that was worthy of pulling Brad Pitt?

Located in Mayfair the salon itself is quite small and the staff are attentive and friendly. Joel was our man for the day and following a consultation he recommended a treatment and talked through his plan of action.

Over at the sinks we were treated to a scalp massage which went on forever (bonus!) and then Joel worked his magic adding layers and snipping away until he'd finished his masterpiece. We were very pleased to say the least, our hair looked shiny and healthy and we stopped traffic...well we stopped the bus home!

TEST TRANSMISSION.....

Last month we were invited by Radio One producer Phil Stocker to talk on his monthly NYC radio show London Essentials broadcast on Art on Air. The show highlights all the things to do and see in London for visitors, and naturally as we love London we said YES and just like that we headed along to the offices of Radio One to meet with the man himself.

Struggling through the queue outside for Jedward (yip we couldn't believe it either) we started to sweat at the fact we'd never actually been on radio before and we were now going to potentially embarrass ourselves in front of Phil who works with some of the biggest names in UK music radio...
